Online Standards Development

What is it?

The Online Standards Development (OSD) platform (formerly known as Online Collaborative Authoring/OCA) is a Word-like tool based on a product called FontoXML that technical bodies can use to draft their project deliverables. It will then flow through to following steps of the production chain.

Scope of supported deliverables

CEN EN, TR, TS

New or a revision (not an amendment or corrigendum)

Homegrown (not under the Vienna Agreement)

Not an Harmonized standard

In stage 00.60 or 10.99

📢How to get started ?

Call for projects - Drafting stage

  • If you don't have a Work Item yet for your project

Select OSD in the NWI form/Digital aspects section. Information will be shared to the relevant team and document created in OSD.

  • If you already have a Work Item for your project

Fill-in this evaluation form to start drafting in the OSD tool.

If your project is not supported yet (e.g. CENELEC projects, amendments), then don't worry - we're working on getting the tool ready for you to use in the future. Please register for an info session or get in touch to learn more.

We haven't experienced any issues with content being lost for any reason.

There is occasional scheduled maintenance, but we notify all pilot users in advance.

Support is always available via the knowledge base or helpdeskcentc@iso.org.

Yes, an export is available to HTML and Word. But these exports have limited formatting, etc.

No, not really. You would need to copy and paste one clause or one table at a time.

Currently the tool is mostly intended to be used for documents that are started from scratch. In the future we need to think about how to handle revisions and other cases where some content already exists.

No, since the tool is browser-based it requires an internet connection to access the document.

Mostly, yes.

It's the same customized software platform built on FontoXML, but there are a couple of differences:

  • Templates - eg: coverpages, annexes for EU directives, etc
  • Integrations - eg: Submission interface, Word and PDF export

Please contact either the ISO project team at helpdesk@iso.org or the IEC project team at authoring@iec.ch to discuss the possibilities.
